About roof replacements

The roof is the problem. Fixing it fixes the room.

Most conservatories from the 1990s and early 2000s have one fundamental problem: the roof. Polycarbonate or single-glazed glass means too hot in summer, freezing in winter, deafening in the rain, and effectively unusable for five or six months of the year. We fit three Ultraframe systems — the UK's leading conservatory roof manufacturer, made in Clitheroe — to solve all four problems in 3-5 days on site, without touching the existing frame, brickwork or windows. The conservatory becomes the room you wanted in the first place.

3–5 day install

Most conservatory roof upgrades complete in 3–5 days on site. Removed and replaced without disturbing the existing frame, brickwork or glazing.

Warm year-round

Solid tiled systems deliver thermal performance ten times better than the polycarbonate or single-glazed roof you’re replacing. Genuinely transformative.

No more rain noise

The end of the polycarbonate rain drum. Tiled and hybrid systems are as quiet as the rest of the house.

Building Regs compliant

Replacement roof systems are LABC-certified, full structural calcs included, and signed off on completion.

The Ultraframe roof systems

Warm tiled, glass, roof lantern.

The right choice depends on orientation, how you want to use the room, and whether you want to keep an overhead view of the sky. We'll talk you through the trade-offs at survey.

Warm Roof

Warm tiled roof

The full year-round upgrade

Ultraframe’s flagship warm tiled roof — lightweight composite tiles, deep insulated rafter zone, internal plasterboard ceiling. The conservatory becomes a real room, used year-round, no different in thermal performance to the rest of the house. The right choice when the space is a kitchen extension, dining room or family room.

  • Warm year-round thermal performance
  • Lightweight composite tiles, matched to existing roof
  • Internal plasterboard finish available
  • Roof windows & sun tunnels optional

Roof Lantern

Ultraframe roof lantern

Best of both worlds

A solid warm tiled roof combined with a dramatic glazed lantern in the centre. Keeps the bright overhead natural light that defines a conservatory while solving the heat-loss and solar-gain problems of an all-glass roof. The right specification for orangery-style conversions and projects where the lantern becomes the architectural centrepiece of the room.

  • Solid sections + central glazed lantern
  • Self-cleaning solar-control glass
  • Dramatic architectural focal point
  • Full Building Regs compliance

Glass Roof

Ultraframe glass roof

Keep the glass roof, fix the performance

Ultraframe’s original glazed conservatory roof system, refined over four decades. When you don’t want to lose the all-glass character but the existing single-glazed or polycarbonate roof is failing — the glass roof upgrade delivers modern self-cleaning solar-control glass units in the same elegant rafter geometry. Same look from outside, dramatically improved thermal and acoustic performance.

  • Self-cleaning solar-control glass
  • Argon-filled double or triple units
  • Same look, dramatically better performance
  • Eliminates condensation & cold spots

Common questions

What homeowners ask us about roof upgrades

Can my existing conservatory support a solid roof?

In most cases, yes — the warm tiled roof is designed to be light enough for existing conservatory frames. We survey the structure, run the calculations, and if any reinforcement is needed it’s in the written quote. We don’t fit a roof we’re not confident the structure will hold.

Do I need Building Regulations approval?

For warm tiled and roof-lantern hybrids, yes — the thermal and structural loadings change. We handle the submission and the calculations. Like-for-like glass replacements usually don’t need it. We’ll confirm at survey.

How long does the install take?

Most jobs are done in 3–5 days on site. Bigger or more complex roofs (lanterns, P-shape configurations) can take a week. We commit to dates in writing and work continuous days so the conservatory isn’t open to the weather any longer than it needs to be.

How much does it cost?

A warm tiled roof on a standard 3m × 3m Edwardian conservatory typically runs £8,000–£14,000 fitted. Larger Victorian or P-shape designs run £12,000–£22,000. Roof-lantern hybrids sit at the higher end. Glass-for-glass replacements £5,000–£10,000. Every price includes Building Regs sign-off, scaffolding, full removal of the old roof, and our 10-year guarantee.

Will a solid roof make my conservatory dark?

Not the way modern systems work. We can fit roof windows and sun tunnels anywhere on the new roof — most projects include 2–4 as standard. If overhead light matters most, a roof lantern combines a solid warm tiled roof with a dramatic central glazed feature. Most customers tell us their new conservatory feels lighter than the old one because the daylight is controlled rather than overwhelming.

Will I lose any height inside?

Typically 10–15cm of internal headroom on a warm tiled roof — that’s the insulation and plasterboard layer. We measure existing heights at survey and confirm the finished dimensions in writing before any work starts. On very low-ceiling conservatories we might recommend a glass roof upgrade or roof lantern instead.

We highly recommend Custom Choice Home Improvements. We recently had seven windows and one door replaced, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. From our initial contact, Tariq's communication was clear and consistent.
