About our living spaces

More than half the homes we work on want more space.

Kitchen-diners, garden rooms, home offices, somewhere to actually use in winter. We design and build conservatories, orangeries and single-storey extensions that feel like part of the house from day one. The glazing comes from the same premium brands we use across windows and doors — Residence Collection, Cortizo, Origin — and the build is managed end-to-end by our own team. No coordinating five different sub-trades. One team, one number, one set of paperwork.

Design-led from day one

Free design visit before any quoting. We sketch options on the kitchen table, talk through Building Regs, and only quote once we know the brief.

Built by the same team

Footings, brickwork, structural steels, roof, glazing, electrics, plastering. Our team manages the full build, sub-trades work for us.

Premium brands

Ultraframe roof systems, with side glazing from the same brands as our windows and doors — Residence, Cortizo, Origin. The extension matches the rest of the house.

Signed off and certified

Planning advice if needed, Building Regs application, structural calcs, certificate of completion. You get the paperwork to match the build.

Modern glass, year-round comfort

Edwardian, Victorian, lean-to, P-shape and bespoke geometries, designed to match the proportions of your house. Modern self-cleaning solar glass and engineered roof systems mean the old "too hot in summer, freezing in winter" problem is solved. Year-round living space, sized to your home.

  • Edwardian, Victorian, lean-to, P-shape
  • Self-cleaning solar-control glass
  • A-rated double or triple glazed
  • Insulated dwarf walls available

Orangeries

Architectural extension feel

Brick or rendered pillars on the corners, flat perimeter roof with a glazed lantern in the centre. Sits and performs like a proper room, not a glazed add-on. The right choice for kitchen-diners and dining rooms that need substantial walls but plenty of natural light from above.

  • Brick or rendered pillars
  • Glazed roof lantern
  • Insulated perimeter ceiling
  • Full Building Regs sign-off

Warm Roof

Warm Tiled Roof

Turn a conservatory into a proper room

If your existing conservatory is too hot in summer and freezing in winter, the roof is almost always the problem. A warm tiled roof replaces tired polycarbonate or single-glazed glass with a lightweight insulated tiled system and a plastered internal ceiling. The conservatory now reads internally as a real room, used year-round.

  • Ultraframe approved installer
  • Lightweight composite tiles, matched to your roof
  • 3–5 day install on most jobs
  • Building Regs compliant

Glass Roof Upgrade

Keep the glass, fix the performance

When you want to keep the all-glass character of the conservatory but the existing single-glazed or polycarbonate roof is failing, a modern glass roof upgrade replaces the panels with self-cleaning solar-control glazing in the same elegant rafter geometry. Same look from outside, dramatically improved thermal and acoustic performance inside.

  • Ultraframe approved installer
  • Self-cleaning solar-control glass
  • Argon-filled double or triple units
  • Eliminates condensation & cold spots

Single-storey Extensions

A proper room, not an add-on

For homeowners where a conservatory or orangery isn’t enough: a single-storey extension with solid walls, insulated roof, full Building Regulations sign-off. We project-manage the full build — footings to plastering — and install our own glazing, doors and roofline as part of the package.

  • Footings to plastering, in-house
  • Insulated warm roof construction
  • Bifold or sliding doors to garden
  • Full architect’s drawings & sign-off

Common questions

What homeowners ask us about extensions

How much does a conservatory or orangery cost in Peterborough?

Conservatories start around £18,000–£35,000 depending on size, roof type and finishes. Orangeries with brick pillars and a glazed roof lantern run £35,000–£60,000+. A single-storey extension with solid walls, insulated roof and full Building Regs runs £45,000–£100,000+. We quote in writing after a free design visit, with every line itemised.

Do I need planning permission?

For most conservatories and orangeries under permitted development rules — no, but conservation areas, listed buildings, and larger extensions all need permission. We assess this on the free design visit. If we think you need planning, we work with local architects in Peterborough and Stamford and project-manage the application.

What’s the difference between a conservatory, an orangery and an extension?

A conservatory is mostly glass — frames, dwarf walls and a glazed roof. An orangery has more masonry — brick or rendered pillars on the corners with a flat perimeter roof and a glazed roof lantern in the middle. An extension has solid walls and an insulated roof throughout. They sit on a spectrum: conservatory feels lightest and brightest, extension feels most like the rest of the house, orangery sits between the two.

How long does the build take?

A conservatory: 4–6 weeks from groundworks to handover. An orangery: 6–10 weeks. A full single-storey extension: 8–14 weeks. We commit to dates in writing at the point of order and stick to them. The team handles every trade in-house — footings, brickwork, glazing, electrics, plastering — so there are no scheduling gaps waiting on subcontractors.

Are your conservatories energy efficient?

Yes. Modern self-cleaning solar-control glass and engineered roof systems mean conservatories now hold temperature year-round. Where appropriate we specify triple glazing, insulated dwarf walls, and warm-roof construction. We can advise on EPC implications, especially if you are planning to let or sell.

Can you match the new build to my existing house?

Yes. Brick selection, mortar colour, render specification, roof tile match, window and door brand alignment — we work with you to make the extension look like it has been part of the house from day one. Many of our jobs in the Peterborough conservation villages are completely indistinguishable from original construction.

We highly recommend Custom Choice Home Improvements. We recently had seven windows and one door replaced, and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. From our initial contact, Tariq's communication was clear and consistent.
